Description:This postcard view shows J. Gamson’s, Royal Bakery in Brewood. Gamson was a baker and confectioner at 5-7 Bargate Street. Just above the horse there is a sign advertising “Apartments, Teas Provided, Lowest Terms”. The core of the building still exists, but some years ago extensive work was carried out to the roof and the brick frontage was renewed. It is now (2020) a single private dwelling known as Sutherland House.

This photograph appears in the 1992 edition of "Brewood" by David Horovitz, published in 1992, with the following caption: "Behind the simple facade of 5-7 Bargate Street lies the timberwork of a fifteenth century open-hall house. The photograph dates from about 1910. The Gamson family were well-known carriers in the village."
