Description:Drawn by Thomas Westwood in 1806, this plan and section of a coal mine at Wednesbury, on the South Staffordshire coalfield at first looks like a working diagram – interesting but not particularly visually appealing. However, on closer inspection, a series of tiny vignettes bring work in an early 19th century coal mine to life, including a group of miners having a gathering and a thirsty pit pony having a drink.
