Description:Printed handbill advertising a forthcoming lecture at the Temperance Hall, Leek, given by Irish author and playwright Oscar Wilde. Entitled ‘The House Beautiful’, this talk formed part Wilde’s lecture tour of Britain in 1884.

in 1864 Leek's temperance society turned the Congregational chapel on Union Street into the Temperance Hall. In the 1920s the Hall was converted into the Majestic Cinema which was burnt out in 1961.

This handbill was printed by T. Mark, Printer and Lithographer, Leek.
