Description:Stafford men's hockey 1st XI for the 1967-1968 season, pictured at the Hough, Stafford. Back row: J. Rusher, D. Jolly, R. Taylor, R. Joynes, S. Sethi, S. Santockh. Front row: A. Nickerson, J. Austin, R.C.B. Wilton, T. Tedstone, P.K. Jones. Stafford Hockey Club was founded in 1876 and for many years shared the Hough ground with Stafford Cricket Club. By the early 20th century it had become a very strong club boasting two international players in Walter Twigg and W.H.B. Bunn. In 1965 the Hockey and Cricket Clubs amalgamated and league fixtures began in 1975. The Cricket and Hockey Club moved to Riverway in 1985 but shortly afterwards artificial grass pitches became the norm for league games so home matches have since been played at Beaconside in Stafford.
