Description:A postcard view of the Suspension Bridge at Doveridge with a glimpse of Doveridge Hall in the background, taken from the Staffordshire side of the River Dove.
The bridge was built in 1901. In 1946 it collapsed when pupils from Brocksford Hall School were crossing the River Dove after church one Sunday. Nobody was hurt, but some were given a good soaking. The bridge was later rebuilt, and still remains today (January 2020).
Doveridge Hall, in Derbyshire, was built in 1769 by Edward Stevens for Sir Henry Cavendish. It was the residence of Lord Waterpark in the early 20th century. The Hall, which overlooked the Dove valley, looking towards Uttoxeter, was demolished in 1938.
This postcard was franked in Uttoxeter on 19 May 1905 and sent to an address in Derby.
