The Stone Good Companions harvest fayre was held in Christ Church Parish Room during October 1957. Mrs Bruce Chambers opened the event by saying “anything we can do to make life for old people easier and better is worthwhile”. Councillor A Swanwick chairman of the Old People’s Welfare Association said the Good Companions existed solely on voluntary contributions. He went on to say that it was hoped that £300.00 or more would be raised for either a building or a plot of land on which to build a permanent club house for old people. A total of £130.00 was raised.
