Description:Members of the newly formed Eccleshall Memorial Hall Youth Club are gathered around the piano enjoying a sing-song at the opening of the club in September 1956.

About 40 young people between the ages of 14 and 21 attended the opening meeting of the newly formed Eccleshall Memorial Hall Youth Club in the Memorial Hall. There was already one active youth club which met at the Secondary Modern School under the leadership of Mr and Mrs F D Wood which originally commenced in 1941. Mr F D Wood (Headmaster of the Secondary Modern School and Chairman of the Adult Committee of the new youth club) told the Stone Guardian that he thought there was enough demand in Eccleshall and the surrounding district for a second youth club. Leader of the new club was Mr J Gibson, assisted by Miss Rita Wild and Mr D Burnett, a Police Constable stationed at Eccleshall. Among those present at the opening meeting were the Vicar of Eccleshall, the Rev. S Tetley and Mrs Tetley, Mr F J Wood (Secretary of Eccleshall Memorial Hall Committee) and Mrs E Starling.

The above information is an extract from an article published in the Stone Guardian on Saturday 22 September 1956.
