Description:The Burton Cooper, symbol of a traditional brewing craft. The Burton Cooper statue seen here at its current location in Cooper's Square shopping centre, Burton-upon-Trent. This bronze statue was created by James Butler RA in 1977 and was commissioned by Burton Civic Society and Pensmen Nominees Ltd. James Butler researched the sculpture by watching Bass coopers Erdie Lee and Joe Foster. The statue was originally sited in the open air at the St. Modwen's Walk entrance to the shopping centre but was moved to its current position in 1994.

Cooper's Square shopping centre was originally opened on 24 March 1970 but was extensively renovated in 1994.

This Image is from a collection of photographs of Burton upon Trent commissioned and assembled by Burton upon Trent Civic Society as a record of the town in the year 2000.
