Description:A baker using the new Cox Denholm bread oven at Hindley's bakery, Wharf Road, Rugeley.

Hindley's bakery was founded by Joseph Hindley at 16a Upper Brook Street, Rugeley in 1896. Upon his death in 1928 his son Gilbert took over the business. Hindley's reputation grew and at their peak they had 230 shops in 18 towns across the Midlands. By the 1960s they had built a new modern bakery at Wharf Road, Rugeley. In 2003 the company decided, due to changing shopping habits, to reduce the number of shops, baking in house. The fourth generation family-run business is now (2019) based at Lichfield with a second shop in Birmingham.
