Description:St. John's Church, Armitage, viewed from the Trent and Mersey Canal. With the exception of the tower, which dates from 1632, the church was rebuilt in 1844-47 in a Norman style, to the designs of Henry Ward of Stafford. The organ at the church is of particular interest because of its size, age and history. It was built in 1789 for Lichfield Cathedral, but moved here in 1865. It was commissioned by Josiah Spode IV who lived nearby at the Hawkesyard Estate, also known as Spode House and previously as Armitage Park.

Postcard published by Wood's stationers, Rugeley. Unfortunately the postage stamp has been removed together with the franking date mark but intently the left portion of the card states in should be used for communication for Inland Postage only - but in fact it was posted from Rugeley to Toronto, Canada. Of course, it could be an old card printing used at a later date when the regulations had changed.
