Description:The postcard view of the Shrewsbury Arms gives the name of the hotel's proprietor at the time and was presumably produced for advertising purposes. It was originally named the Crown. By the mid 19th century it was the Talbot Arms and became infamous as the location of William Palmer's crime. It was renamed the Shrewsbury Arms in order to disassociate it from its past. Note the ornate lamp and wrought iron sign over the entrance.

Postcard published by Burrow of Cheltenham and posted in 1915, but the photograph appears to be late 19th century.
