Description:William Palmer was hanged for the murder of John Parsons Cooke in 1856 and this was his home at the time. It was rented from the Earls of Lichfield. The murder took place in the Talbot Hotel, directly opposite (more latterly known as the Shrewsbury Arms and then the Shrew). It probably has 16th century origins. In the early 20th century it became the Post Office and in the 1920's was Westwood's Garage. Later the Co-op sold furnishings, hardware and ladies fashions and the frontage has recently been extensively remodelled to become shop units.
