On the left are the shops of John Key and Sons, drapers and tailors. The upper floors were used as a Y.M.C.A. club and canteen during World War 1 and until after World War 2 and were later used for dancing classes. John Key and Sons' business closed in 1984. John Key invented the 'Donkey' jacket in 1888which was originally designed workers constructing the Manchester Ship Canal.
