Description:An early postcard view of the 'New' Town Hall, Rugeley of which only the clock tower now remains.

This postcard has space for a message to the right of the picture as well as on the left half of the split back. The split back was permitted from 1902; previously messages would have been on the picture side only. Therefore this card is an early hybrid before the picture filled the whole of the front.

Access to an indoor market was through an entrance at the base of the tower. The upper storey of the part of the building on the far right was used for meetings and dances. It was built on the site of the Shoulder of Mutton Inn in 1878-1879. The architect was W. Tadman Foulkes. The shops to the left still stand.
