Description:The interior of the Old Chancel, Rugeley. Note the candle snuffer on the harmonium on the left hand side.
Above the pillar is the memorial to Philip Weston. This ornate memorial tablet is written in Latin and is dated 1713. The tablet is topped by the crest of the Weston family. The translation reads:- ‘To the memory of Philip Weston of Rugeley, Esquire – Died 21st March 1713, the grandson of Sir Richard Weston, Knight, and of Mary, his wife, who died 22nd October 1710’.

On the right hand side is the Lancet window. This is the oldest window in the church, put in when the chancel was built in the 12th century. The original window would not have contained glass. The sides of the windows are very square, and in early times a wooden frame covered with oiled cloth or canvas, would have been put in the window. The glass is very old and the oak leaf motif helps us to date it as later fourteenth century glass. It was probably manufactured by the Wakelyn family, who lived locally and who we know, provided 375 pounds of glass for York Minster in the year 1419. The window was restored in 1968 in loving memory of Charles Roland and Kate Reeve Morris.
