Description:Walk Mill dates from the late eighteenth century and was used for grinding corn. There was an earlier mill on this site which was used for fulling or “walking” cloth, hence the name.
The waterwheel is in the single storey structure in the bottom left of the picture. Much of the milling machinery, including two (originally four) pairs of millstones remains in the tall building adjoining it seen here. Restoration work began in the 1970s but was not completed. Storm damage in 1975 caused major damage to the buildings and milling ceased.
The long building seen here is the barn on Sugnall Road. The mill, the dam and the mill pond probably date from the 13th century.
