Date:1905 - 1909 (c.)

Description:Shoal Hill was a popular place for Cannock inhabitants to play, promenade and socialise. The roadside barriers, where the road surface was higher than the adjacent verges, were locally known as the 'Monkey Rails', possibly from the boys' practice of swinging completely around the bars emulating the Victorian 'Monkey up a Stick' toy.

A postcard view postmarked 20 May 1909.
