Description:"M", "N" and "O" lines at Brocton Camp in winter. The snow highlights fencing between the troops' huts and the Officers' huts which is not easy to see at other times of the year. Most postcards sent home often mentioned the awful cold and barren landscape of the Chase asking for more warm clothing.

The ever present Water Tower is a reference point to identify the location of this image. The trenches are barely visible but the gantries supporting the straw sacks for bayonet practice stand out. No matter the weather the timetable had to be adhered to in order to train the troops. This is where the electric lighting would have been invaluable to be able to carry out classroom activities and study at any time of the year.
