Date:20th of November 1918

Description:The former Regimental Institutes of "A" and "B" Lines were used for entertainment of various kinds by the Prisoners of War, including theatre, as they were the larger of the huts and suitable for this function.

Here the PoWs are performing a play called 'Ein Fallissement' which, according to the translation, is about someone going bankrupt. Besides being put to work where possible, this was one of the ways the PoWs could have some enjoyment. They had their own band, played football, kept fit through exercise and had other distractions to bring some sort of normality to their lives before they were eventually repatriated home. Even though the cease fire came into being on November 11th 1918, it was not until the Treaty of Versailles the following June that the War was officially over. It would then take many months to return all of them home which must have been very frustrating to the prisoners.
