Description:This postcard view appears to show an official opening or possible joining of the two lines from Hednesford to Milford as there are two guests (a woman and a child) in the front locomotive. It was a standard gauge, light railway and due to the gradient and curves of the line they used 0-6-0 saddle type engines. The image shows two engines each pulling four trucks which seemed to be the maximum the trains could safely pull.

The name "Tackeroo" has a number of possible derivations but it is thought to come from the district where line first joined near Hednesford. On the other side of the Chase, near the Milford terminus, it tended to be called the Military Railway. The more unusual name seems to have caught the imagination.

Initially the workers building the Camp were paid an additional fee for walking to their place of work from nearby accommodation but with the coming of the railway this was withdrawn and caused them to go on strike.
