Description:Looking north across the scaled terrain model of the Battle of Messines at Brocton Camp. The New Zealand Rifle Brigade took part in the successful campaign to take the Messines Ridge, a stronghold on high ground on the Western Front in Belgium. The accurate relief map showed the section of the battle where the New Zealanders fought. German Prisoners of War from the nearby Camp were involved in constructing the model.
This image, taken from the raised viewing area, shows "G" Lines behind, the remains of which have disappeared along with "F" Lines following extraction of sand and gravel post War.
The New Zealanders came to Brocton Camp in September 1917 to set up the Cannock Chase Reserve Centre and use the valuable experience gained by their troops to train fresh recruits.
