Description:Portrait of Thomas Bostock 1777-1837.

Thomas Bostock was the founder of the Bostock/Lotus shoe manufacturing dynasty. he was the son of a Derbyshire Cordwainer and was apprenticed to his father as a shoemaker. By 1820 he was making boots and shoes in Gaolgate Street and by 1834 he employed 200 men.

His son Edwin took over the business in 1837.
