Description:Les Jenkins the legendary "Stoke Express" and his motorbike photographed at the Sun Street Stadium, Hanley. Stoke Speedway riders wore waistcoats with the original five-star pattern.

Stoke Speedway was founded at the Sun Street Stadium in 1929. The outbreak of war in 1939 put the sport on hold until 1947 after which the sport thrived, attracting large crowds in the years after the Second World War. After another break between 1954 and 1959, the Potters rode again for a few years until the closure of the Sun Street Stadium in 1963.

The club was re-founded as Chesterton Potters when a new stadium was opened at Loomer Road, Chesterton, but reverted to Stoke Potters the following season.
