Description:The view along Purbeck Street (previously named George Street) from the corner with Leek New Road. There was a row of 16 terraced houses on the north side, with the brickworks of the Cobridge Brick & Marl Co. opposite. The terrace was built between 1880 and 1899. The 1901 census lists a wide range of pottery workers living in George Street, including paintress, glost placer, thimble picker, dipping house worker, hollow ware presser, printer's transferrer, cratemaker.
The photograph was taken just before the street and brickworks buildings were cleared and the land used for light industry.
