Description:The photograph shows the White Swan Inn at 107 Newport Lane, Middleport where there has been an inn or beerhouse since the 1830s. This building was originally two modest semi-detached houses, which had been amalgamated by 1900, surrounded by a pottery works (latterly the Furlong Tile Works). To the right was a newsagent and tobacconist, still standing but derelict. To the right, the surrounding pottery has been demolished.
The Bedford delivery lorry belonged to James Norris, a wine and spirits merchant with branches at Market Hall Stores in Burslem and Piccadilly in Hanley.
