Description:This Invalid carriage, almost large enough to be called a Pony Phaeton, is from the 20th earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot's carriage collection at Ingestre. This carriage may have been used by someone who had difficulties walking and was used for making short journeys around the park or estate, pulled by a small pony. It was made in the late 19th century by Ward of Tottenham Court Road, London. Although this type of vehicle is known as an ‘Invalid Carriage’, this is no longer a term which would be used today. This horse-drawn carriage is from the Staffordshire County Museum collection. You can find out more about the Invalid Carriage and see 3D imaging that you can rotate and zoom in to explore detail at the Staffordshire Carriage Collection website: http://www.staffordshirecarriages.org.uk/invalid-carriage/
