Description:This shop was on the corner of Velvet Street (to the left) and Woodbank Street in Burslem. The building dates from the middle of the 19th century when Woodbank Street was known as Hanover Street. Velvet Street, now demolished, connected Woodbank Street with Croft Street. The site has been cleared.
Bert Bentley noted the shop as unusual because of its architecture: with the initials EC carved over the door and above two of the windows. The building was originally number 28 Hanover Street and was both a house and a shop (including a grocer's and a tailor's) at different times.
