Description:This is one of seven hand coloured Staffordshire Series Ordnance Survey maps that show the areas surrounding Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre.
You will see that it has been signed in the bottom right corner 'H Elsdale, Lieutenant, 23.10.76'.
Henry Elsdale (born 1843) was in the Royal Engineers and did work for the Ordnance Survey.

This map covers the areas now called Clayton, The Westlands and Springfields. Marked on the map are the Springfields Brick and Tile Works, Clay pit, Hill Farm Roe Lane Farm, Grindley House, Grindley Hill Farm and Newcastle Canal.
