Description:A postillion in his livery, standing outside the Cross Keys Inn, Heath Hayes, Hednesford.

A postilion was the driver of a horse-drawn coach or post chaise, mounted on one of the horses. By contrast, a coachman would be seated on the vehicle along with the passengers.

The Cross Keys Inn was built in 1746 on the original site of the town, which has today expanded north westerley. It was used originally as stables and many horse riding champions once trained here.
