Description:The Highgate tile works of H & R Johnson was opposite Enoch Wedgwood's pottery on Brownhills Road, Tunstall. The Highgate pottery dates from the 1830s and originally belonged to George Hood. It passed through the Emberton family until becoming part of Alfred Meakin's and then in the early 1900s, Johnson's. The Highgate works was the headquarters of H & R Johnson Ltd.

The photograph shows the main entrance on Brownhills Road. The 10 acre site has been cleared and is part of the Ceramic Valley Enterprise Zone.
