Description:Janet Cruickshank was Uttoxeter’s first female opthalmist.

Janet was the daughter of Ernest Mellor, a chemist in Uttoxeter from 1910 to 1960. Janet left trained under Dr Max Coque at the London Optical Institute and set up her first practice in 1933, at the age of just 21, above her father's chemist shop at 32, Market Place. She died, aged 103, on Thursday 11th June 2015
