Description:George and Irene Brew (nee Acton) are pictured at their wedding at St Augustine’s Church in Rugeley. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Cabin public house (later this became the Vaults), by Market Square, Rugeley. If you recognise anyone else in this view please contact us.

George Brew became a squadron Leader in the RAF and during his service he took part in 70 operational flights with 1200 flying hours, often in Blenheim Bombers. He served in several parts of the UK and in the middle-east. Towards the end of the Second World War George was a senior Officer stationed at Hednesford RAF Camp.

In 1945 George and Irene lived in a flat over Southwell’s shop in Brook Square, Rugeley, in 1950 they lived at 16 Hill Street, Rugeley and in 1951 they moved to Grantham. In 1954 George transferred (along with Irene) to RAF Fayid in Egypt. This base closed in 1956 and George was demobbed shortly after. On returning to Rugeley George and Irene bought a Grocers and Hairdressers business in Redbrook Lane by the Hope and Anchor public house. They lived nearby in Coalpit Lane and later when the business was sold George went to work for the Thorn Automation (Lancashire Dynamo) factory in Brereton.
