Description:The ox roast at celebrations for H.J. Bamford’s twenty-first birthday. At 4am a fire was lit on Hockley Meadow to roast a bullock, balanced across two trestles. The carcass was cooked by 12.30pm, and John Henry Bamford cut the first slice. 200 further slices were cut and given away. The church bells rang out, and the workers of his father's Leighton ironworks struck a 21 anvil salute at 12 noon.
