Description:This view from Crabbery Street, looking down Chapel Street in Stafford was taken by Stafford photographer Tony Boydon. On the left is a part view of the former County Supplies (D.I.Y.) shop. In the centre is the Minister's house which was a dental surgery at the time of this photograph. John Wesley first preached in Stafford in 1783. For many years the Wesleyans in Stafford used premises in St. Chad's Place as their meeting house, until they built a new chapel on Chapel Street in 1811. This building was soon demolished because of structural defects. A new larger chapel, seen here, was erected on the same site in 1863. A minister's house was built next door. A Sunday school opened in Rowley Street in 1886. The Wesleyan Chapel closed in the 1980s and most of the building was demolished in the early 1990’s except for the Chapel tower which today remains and is incorporated into the Guildhall Shopping Centre, Market Hall and overhead car park development.
