Description:James Hanson demonstrating the rock drill he designed. James is second from left holding the drill bit which he is showing to Prime Minister David Lloyd George.

James Hanson worked on rock drills at W.H. Dorman & Co., Limited, between about 1918 and 1923, probably using George Constantinesco's theory of wave transmission through fluids. Constantinesco had previously been working on developing a rock drill based on his theories and James Hanson had the ability to develop other people's ideas to create a working machine.
