Description:The is a view north along the valley of the Fowlea Brook from Etruria Road at the bottom of Basford Bank. In the foreground is Hartley's Iron Foundry where many of the storm drain covers (or Hartlids) seen around the city were made. To the left is the winding gear of Wolstanton Colliery and to the right, the chimneys and furnaces of Shelton Steel Works. The colliery was connected to the steelworks over the railway line in the centre of the photograph.
