Description:A view of Eccleshall High Street looking west. On the left are the arcaded frontages of the Crown Inn and the Royal Oak Inn. Perhaps the Royal Oak's greatest claim to fame is that it was owned by Geoff Hurst, scorer of a hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup Final, who played for Stoke City F.C. from 1972 to 1975. On the right can be seen the petrol pumps and Esso sign of Eccleshall Garage, then owned by Colin Matthews, and later by the Jackson Brothers. In the foreground is the hanging sign of the Bell Inn; the landlord at the time was Walter Renshaw.

The car parked in the street is a Vanden-Plas Princess R and belonged to the garage owner, Colin Matthews.
