Description:The Moat House on Lichfield Street, Tamworth. A fine Tudor Mansion, the Moat House was built by the Comberford family in the 1570's. During the Civil War the Comberford family were supporters of King Charles I, but as the Parliamentarian's captured Tamworth, the Comberford family fled and their home was ransacked. When the war ended the Comberford's sold the house and moved to their estates in France. The Moat House subsequently passed through a number of families and has in its time been a nursing home and restaurant.
