Description:The thatched cottage, with the address no. 2 Slitting Mill Road stood near the then quarry, and was demolished in about 1969. It was said to be about 300 years old by its last resident Mr Major Harley, aged 81 in 1969, who was born and grew up in the cottage. It had two bedrooms and a living room containing a cooking range. Mr Harley said he remembered going in a donkey cart with his mother to visit relatives in Shugborough Hall Lodge. Note the well-dressed man with the tall hat standing in front of the cottage. It is possible that this was Mr Frank Harley (born about 1852), a Foreman in an iron foundry.
