Description:Workers from the Etruria Wedgwood factory at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new factory at Barlaston.

In the foreground are the 'Etruscan' veterans, long serving Wedgwood employees, who were especially chosen to place Black Basalt pots under the foundation stone. The veterans are, from left to right: Josiah (Jesse) Stevenson, Leonard Williams, Jonathan Rhodes, Harry Bentley, Louisa Coates, Henzer Whitmore, John Goodwin and Arthur Mantle.

Norman Wilson, Production Director, can be seen with Alan Wedgwood, the youngest family representative, who is holding the specially inscribed commemorative trowel used to seal the foundation stone. He was later presented with it as a keepsake.
