Description:This is a handmade dress that may have been used as a Christening Gown before being altered into a formal dress.
The dress has broderie anglaise on the collar, cuffs, hemline and on the belt, these pieces of embroidery display a previous past as a Christening Gown. The fact that this dress has been altered is not unusual as most families re-used baby clothes and passed them down through the family. The small flowers hand sewn on the gown were probably a later addition and used to add some colour and decoration to the gown and make it seem less like a Christening gown.
