Description:Thomas Holmes (station porter) is second from the left on the back row.

At the time this photograph was taken the Cheadle line had just recently opened and all the goods and parcels were being handled through the busy Cresswell station. When the station was later opened at Cheadle, Thomas Holmes was transferred there where he continued his role as a drayman and porter.

Cresswell Railway Station stood on the Stoke-on-Trent to Uttoxeter branch of the North Staffordshire Railway and opened in 1848. The station closed on 7th November 1966 and was demolished except for the signal box. The signal box was demolished when the crossing was automated in the late 1980s.
