Description:We are not entirely sure when this bodice dates from, but beleive it may be early Victorian. The V design on the bodice appears on both the front and back drawing the eyes to the waist making it appear smaller. The light colour of the bodice could indicate that it was worn by somebody who could afford to keep it clean, as paler colours were more difficult to keep clean. It is likely that this bodice had a matching skirt that was just as heavily decorated, but as the skirts were long they dragged along the ground making holes, so skirts and complete outfits are rare as they often just replaced the skirts. The bodice is in poor condition as the silk has deteriorated over time, creating holes and tears in the bodice.
