Description:Following a nine-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, members of the 3rd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment (3Mercian), formerly the Staffords, are pictured outside Lichfield Cathedral. The Regiment will merge with two other Battalions to form the Mercian Regiment (Cheshire, Worcesters and Foresters and the Staffords).
There were final parades by the Regiment around the region in Cannock, Burton on Trent, Newcastle under Lyme, Stafford, Stoke on Trent, Tamworth, Walsall, Wolverhampton and finally on Saturday 28 June 2014, in Lichfield with a special ceremony at Lichfield Cathedral, followed by a walk to the Kings Head public house, where the Staffordshire Regiment was originally formed in 1705.
