Description:This image of a carving of a hand with a heart in the middle is taken from a glass negative.
The carving is located on the right-hand side of the doorway in the Porch of St. James The Great Church at Longdon. The carving is believed to be a Talisman against the evil eye. It is also known as the ‘Bride's Hand’ and is traditionally touched by brides entering the Church on their wedding day, in order to bring good fortune to the marriage.
The villages of Longdon, Longdon Green and Upper Longdon, share this church which has stood in Longdon for at least 850 years.
