Description:Henry Dale was christened at St. Mary's Church, Stafford, on 30 April 1823. His parents were recorded as Thomas Dale and Elizabeth Davis of Stafford. Thomas was employed as a shoemaker and the ceremony was performed by Edward J. Rathbone.

Henry's marriage to Jane Heeley took place at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Baswich, Staffordshire on 13 April 1846.

He was admitted on 28th July 1847 Freeman of the Borough of Stafford (vide "The Freemen of Stafford Borough" pub.1998)

Signed the "Householders Petition" in 1836. Proposal to defanchise because of corruption.

In the 1910 Valuation Records, Henry was the owner and occupier of Brickworks and 11 Acres of Land in Marston Road, Map Ref xxvii7B Rateable Value £27 10s (Also known as Common Road,Tillington)

CENSUS - 1841- Henry was living in North St Stafford with his sister Sarah and her husband. He was a shoe maker apprentice (Source: 1841 Census, HO 107/1010 Folio 19 Page 33.) .

CENSUS - 1851- The family where living at 17 Red Lion Street, Stafford, Staffordshire, a cordwainer. Civil Parish St Marys Ecclesiastical Parish Christ Church. The household consisted of Henry, head of the house, aged 28, his wife Jane aged 24 and their two sons Charles aged 3 and William aged 1. Census Ref: HO107/1999 ED9i Folio295 Page39 HSN150. CENSUS - 1861- The family where living at 15 Common Road, Stafford, Staffordshire. Civil Parish St Marys. The household consisted of Henry, head of the house, a cordwainer aged 37, his wife Jane aged 33 their four children and a servant. Charles aged 13, William aged 11 James aged 9, Harriet aged 2 and John Eley a cordwainer aged 19 and born in Salt, Staffordshire. Census Ref: RG9/1907 ED16 Folio28 Page43 HSN217. CENSUS - 1871- The family where living at 26 Common Road, Stafford, Staffordshire. Civil Parish St Marys Municipal Ward West Parliamentary Borough Stafford Ecclesiastical Parish Christ Church. The household consisted of Henry, head of the house, a farmer aged 48, his wife Jane a dressmaker aged 48 and their five children. William a butcher aged 22, James a butcher aged 20, Clara a scholar aged 6, Emma a scholar aged 4 and Henry aged 2. Census Ref: RG10/2818 ED22 Folio36 Page9 HSN60. CENSUS - 1881- The family where living at 51 Common Road, Stafford, Staffordshire. Civil Parish St Marys Municipal Ward West Parliamentary Borough Stafford. The household consisted of Henry, head of the house, a carter aged 57, his wife Jane aged 54 and their four children. Julia a machinist aged 19, Emma, unemployed aged 14, Henry a scholar aged 12 and Thomas a scholar aged 8. Census Ref: RG11/2689 ED33 Folio137 Page12 HSN51. Registration and Sub District Stafford.

CENSUS - 1891- The family where living at 51 Marston Road, Stafford, Staffordshire. Civil Parish St Mary and St Chads Municipal Ward East Parliamentary Borough Stafford Ecclesiastical Parish Christ Church. The household consisted of Henry, head of the house, a carter aged 68, his wife Jane aged 64 and their two children. Thomas a labourer aged 18 and Emma an assistant in the home aged 25. CENSUS - 1901- The family where living at 55 Marston Road, Stafford, Staffordshire. Civil Parish Stafford Municipal Ward East Ward Parliamentary Borough Stafford Ecclesiastical Parish Christ Church. The household consisted of Henry, head of the house, a farmer (employer) aged 77, his wife Jane aged 74 and their daughter Emma aged 34. Census Ref: RG13/2572 ED27 Folio114 Page8 HSN49. Registration and Sub District Stafford.

CENSUS -1911 – Henry was living with his daughter Emma and John Waterfall at 109 Marston Road.


Henry died at 245 Oxford Street, Stafford on the 13 December 1912 and was buried in Eccleshall Road Cemetery on 18 December 1912. At the time of his death Henry was 89 years of age.
