Description:The Elite Cinema with Hedley Reynolds changing the film title on the front. The film being advertised is probably Romeo and Juliet, starring Norma Shearer and Leslie Howard, and released in 1936. The Elite was owned by Mrs Baize of the Manor House and Mrs Stebbings from Ashbourne. The 900 seat cinema was built by Messrs Ward and Godbehere for Mr F.P. Birch and Mrs F.W. Stebbings. It opened on 9th September 1935 showing 'Bright Eyes', starring Shirley Temple. By 1976 the main area was a bingo hall, the balcony a 120 seat cinema. In 2004 the whole building was a Pentecostal Church.
