Description:Albert and Florence May Barker purchased Rock House in around 1947. It was already an established tea room. Albert and May ran the tea room until it was sold to Gordon Boston in 1954. During this time the main clientele for the tea room were visitors to Milford Common. Mrs Barker remembers very busy days when there were coach parties or cycling clubs that used to fill the tea rooms. The whole family would have to working in the tea rooms on these days. In addition to the tea room they had an ice cream kiosk. Ice cream was quite a luxury in those early post war years when food was still rationed. Mr Barker used to get up at 5am to get the ice cream mixed ready for the day ahead. Rock House also took in paying guests. The day to day running of Rock House was very much a family affair with Mr and Mrs Barker and other relatives helping out. It seems to have been a successful and busy business.
