Description:Front view of Minton's pottery factory, awaiting demolition.

Thomas Minton founded his factory on London Road, Stoke on Trent in 1793-1796. He was succeeded by Herbert Minton (1793-1858). The company specialised in cream-coloured and blue-painted earthenware maiolica, Parian porcelain and sculptured pieces. At the time it closed, the factory was part of Royal Doulton Group. It closed in 2002 and remaininmg buildings were demolished to make way for J.S. Sainsbury's supermarket, which opened in 2003.

In 1845 Herbert Minton took Michael Dainty Hollins into partnership, creating the tile-making company Minton-Hollins & Co. In 1869 a new purpose built factory was erected on Shelton Road. This was largely demolished in 1987 but the main building survives as offices.
