Description:Pharmacists used mortars and pestles to grind crystals, solids and herbs into a fine powder. Marble mortars such as this were less likely to react with the chemicals in the medicines. From the Staffordshire County Museum collection. Formerly part of the collection of Mr. Ewart Jones of Newbridge Pharmacy, Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, where he worked from the late 1950s until the mid 1980s.
